I bought Sebastian from a family in Lebanon, Indiana in 2007, on Mother's Day. He was one of the best dogs I've had. The bar had been set pretty high by Angel. I'd bought a male dog one year and didn't keep him because of his temperament. I had planned on keeping one of Angel's male pups but he became aggressive with the sheep. That's a serious issue so the dog had to be euthanized. That was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I say all this to point out the fact that between buying Angel, my first dog, to buying Sebastian I learned so much. Just because a dog is a Great Pyrenees doesn't mean it's going to be able to do the job or that it has the personality needed. See the story about Sebastian #2 for more about that. Sebastian (#1) was such a good guardian that I was considering buying a female to breed with him. One very hot summer day I was out working on fence and noticed him panting. I went to check on him, offered him water which he refused and within 10 - 20 minutes he was dead. He was only 6 years old and had showed no signs of being sick that morning when I turned him in with the sheep. I still struggle with this wondering if I missed something. He and Angel were the ideal livestock guardian dogs and I miss them so much.
